Keystone Kids Go Active!

Go Active! was launched in May 2007.

To promote physical activity in preschoolers, Keystone Kids Go! has partnered with Head Start’s I Am Moving, I Am Learning initiative, which takes a proactive approach to preventing childhood obesity in Head Start children.  I Am Moving, I Am Learning currently is being implemented in 19 Head Start sites across Pennsylvania, some of which already use Keystone Color Me Healthy materials.

All Keystone Color Me Healthy Trainers for 2006-07 are learning the principles and strategies behind I Am Moving, I Am Learning so that they can incorporate these strategies into the training sessions they conduct for childcare providers.  In addition, many early childhood practitioners who receive Keystone Color Me Healthy materials in 2006-07 also will receive a music CD that is part of the I Am Moving, I Am Learning initiative. Click here for more details.

The toolkit provides childcare providers easy access to activities that promote healthy behavior and increase the quality and quantity of children’s instant, integrative, and imaginative movement.  More than half of the 25 fun, kid-tested activities include weight-bearing activities to help build strong bones and muscles and help promote good bone health early in life.

The GoActive! Toolkit continues to provide childcare providers with an array of ideas on increasing the amount of physical activity in the classroom. Below are some quotes form the childcare providers utilizing the toolkit.

QUOTES:

  • "Go Active gave me a door prize called "Choosy". The preschool children really enjoy doing Movin-n-Groovin to Choosy's songs and movements. So do I as their teacher. Thank you."

  • "I already have placed a high priority on activity and have used my own games and ideas for movement. A lot of the activities are things I've already done before. It was interesting to have some new twists to games. I would be interested in learning more new activities to use. Thanks."

  • "My children love doing different activities. We use scarves while dancing. We use instruments while playing music. We also do exercises as part of my preschool activities. We are very active in my daycare. I love my children. They are all pretty healthy."

  • "The children really enjoy the activities that we do. I like the fact that they are easy enough to use as a transition activity when we need to wait unexpectedly."
