Using time-saving equipment & quick cook ideas to create nourishing meals in affordable ways
We face a public health crisis of enormous proportions currently in the United States. Alongside chronic food access challenges, many Americans are simply unable to translate basic food and nutrition information onto their own plates and within their kitchen space. This vital cooking knowledge gap is exacerbated by a simple lack of understanding about which kitchen equipment and which health-supportive ingredients might be the best investments on a diminishing budget.
This one day culinary-nutrition workshop focuses on preparing health-supportive dishes using a variety of convenience-oriented kitchen equipment, affordable familiar ingredients and basic cooking techniques. Recipes are purposely chosen to illustrate that healthful and affordable meal preparation is achievable in minimal time, using limited cooking equipment and basic cooking skills.
Learning Objectives
- Prepare nourishing meals, using familiar, low cost, accessible ingredients
- Prepare recipes that are adjustable to limited cooking knowledge, restrictive budgets and minimal kitchen equipment
- Work with kitchen equipment and cooking techniques to deliver deep nourishment in minimal time: pressure cookers; immersion blenders and mini-processors
- Increase nourishment and vitality through simple ingredient additions and substitutions
- Negotiate which tools and equipment are the best investment for maximum nutrition returns
- Transfer ingredients and recipes from this workshop to educational tools you can adapt and use in any work or cultural setting
- Take home recipes, adaptable tools and concepts you can really use!
