Digital Photo Receivers

Digital photo receivers (DPRs) have been tested as a tool for nutrition education to low-income groups in Philadelphia by Robin Rifkin MS and Barbara Lohse PhD, RD of the PA Nutrition Education Network.

DPRs are automated photo frames that use sharing technology to receive, store, display and organize digital photos.  Through a receiver weighing less than 1 pound, photos can be uploaded remotely using only a phone connection to a toll-free number and electric outlet.  As a nutrition education instrument, DPRs use .jpg files designed and arranged as a slide show on a receiver screen.  Each nutrition education slide is designed to allow the viewer to engage in the program at any point in the sequence.  DPRs, acting as “personal posters”, are ideal for counters or waiting rooms.

To view a PDF of the tested DPR programs, click on an image below. To view a program horizontally, open the PDF, then click the rotate button in Adobe. Open .jpegs of the DPR programs.

Downloading DPR images/programs for use**

Below, please find links to download .jpegs of selected DPR programs. By downloading these files, you will be able to upload them to your own digital photo receiver or adapt them for use in your program.

Because the files are so large, WinZip software was used to condense the files for easier downloading. If you do not have WinZip, and would like to use any of the DPR programs to reach low-income audiences, please contact the PA NEN office at 717.233.1791.
